FERPA

FERPA is the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.  It is federal law that protects your student record so that only you and those that you name can gain access to your student record, which includes grades, conduct, and payment of tuition to just name a few items.  Think of it like the privacy agreement when you see a doctor.  NTCC will protect your personal information and we have a policy in place for your review.  Please refer to the catalog to see it.  If you are under 18, your parent or legal guardian can access your information, however, once you turn 18 they cannot.  If you know that someone you love and trust is going to be assisting you in managing the administrative and billing side of your education, complete a FERPA form with Student Services.  Just remember a few things.

1.  If your parents live in the same home and are both likely to handle your affairs, please give them both access to your account.  It is very frustrating for a loved one to hear that they can’t be given the information that they need to pay the bill.

2.  If you give access to a significant other or spouse, please be mindful that you remove that access if the relationship ends.  You remove access by contacting Student Services.  Think carefully about who you want to know your personal information.
