Lacombe, LA.— Northshore Technical Community College presented their 3rd annual technology summit at the Castine Center in Mandeville on Thursday, February 29th, showcasing careers in advanced technology to high school students from throughout the greater northshore region. Approximately 750 students attended the NTCC Advanced Technology Summit, gaining an understanding of educational pathways to careers that utilize technology in Logistics and Transportation, Advanced Manufacturing, Construction, Healthcare, and Information Technology.
"The 2024 Advanced Technology Summit served as a platform for local high school students to explore programs available at NTCC that prepare individuals for careers that require knowledge in innovation and new technologies," said Dr. Jim Carlson, Chancellor of NTCC. "Our goal is to expose students to both the emerging fields of advanced technology as well as the local career opportunities available on the Northshore."
Leaders in the implementation of advanced technology met with small groups of students to help them identify potential careers, and NTCC faculty and students explained how NTCC’s programs of study are preparing the workforce of the future to secure employment in those fields.
“At the heart of our college's mission is being able to provide affordable, accessible educational options to the Northshore community that also enhance the communities that we serve,” said Carlson. "The ability to expose high school students to the multitude of career opportunities available locally that require knowledge in advanced technologies is paramount to them being prepared to make our communities more vibrant in the future."
Students from Fontainebleau High School, Northshore High School, and St. Helena College and Career Academy presented their Advanced Technology projects in the Student Showcase area of the summit. Students were also able to explore NTCC’s Mobile Mechatronics Lab, Banner Ford’s electric vehicles, and eSports with Northshore Regional STEM Coalition.
"The presentations at the summit were not only informative but also engaging, providing our students with a glimpse into the latest advancements in technology. Moreover, the chance to network with professionals in the field allowed them to gain firsthand insights and inspiration," said Trent Threeton, CIW and Cyber Society Teacher at Ponchatoula High School. "I want to particularly commend the programs offered by Northshore Technical Community College, which sparked significant interest among our students. They are eager to explore further opportunities within these programs and beyond."
The summit was presented by DXC Technology, and business and industry partners participating in the summit included Trane, Banner Ford, Industrial Training Solutions, Syngvus, Southland Steel, Mele Printing, National Weather Service, GlobalStar, Elmer Candy, Checkpoint Pumps & Systems, Evergreen Tractor, St. Tammany Parish Government, and St. Tammany Parish School Board.
