Student Loans
A student loan is a form of financial assistance available to qualifying students that helps cover the cost of tuition & fees and requires the student to pay back the loan (with interest). NTCC participates in the Federal Direct Loan program.
Student loans are managed and awarded by NTCC's Financial Aid Office.
FAFSA School Code: 006756
Types of Federal Direct Student Loans:
Federal Direct Subsidized
A subsidized loan is awarded on the basis of financial need. The federal government pays the interest on the loan while the borrower is enrolled at least half-time, during the grace period and during a period of deferment. More information about the Federal Direct Subsidized loan program is available on the StudentAid.gov website.
Federal Direct Unsubsidized
The unsubsidized loan is not based on financial need. The federal government does not pay the interest while the borrower is in school. All interest is the borrower’s responsibility. If you choose not to pay the interest while you are in school and during grace periods and deferment or forbearance periods, your interest will accrue (accumulate) and be capitalized (that is, your interest will be added to the principal amount of your loan). More information about the Federal Direct Unsubsidized loan program is available on the StudentAid.gov website.
Federal Direct Parent PLUS
The Parent PLUS loan is available to eligible parents to help cover the cost of tuition and fees of their dependent's education. Parent PLUS loans require the completion of a FAFSA (like the subsized and unsubsized loans) but are also based on credit check. The parent will be required to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN). More information about the Parent PLUS loan program is available on the StudentAid.gov website.
