NTCC Chancellor Dr. Jim Carlson Honored with Paragon President Award by Phi Theta Kappa

LACOMBE, LA — Northshore Technical Community College (NTCC) is proud to announce that Chancellor Dr. Jim Carlson has been awarded the prestigious Paragon President Award by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) during the organization’s national convention.

The honor was formally presented during NTCC’s Beta Phi Zeta Chapter Induction Ceremony, offering students, faculty, and community members the opportunity to celebrate the recognition together.

The Paragon President Award is presented to new college presidents and chancellors who have been in their roles for less than three years and have shown strong and consistent support for Phi Theta Kappa chapters. Recipients are nominated by PTK students and selected from a competitive pool of candidates worldwide based on their leadership, engagement, and commitment to student success.

“I am deeply honored to receive the Paragon Award from Phi Theta Kappa, especially because it comes from the students themselves,” said Dr. Jim Carlson, NTCC Chancellor. Their trust and recognition mean the world to me. From day one, my commitment has been to create opportunities where every NTCC student can thrive— whether that means graduating, transferring, or stepping into a great career.”

Amy Fleming, NTCC’s Department Chair of Liberal Arts and Humanities, Professor of English, and Phi Theta Kappa Chapter Advisor, praised Dr. Carlson’s dedication to student involvement: “Dr. Carlson was selected for this award among hundreds of nominees internationally. He created our first chapter at NTCC and has always shown PTK such support — helping plan inductions and projects, attending chapter meetings, and always asking for updates and ways he can better help our chapter,” said Fleming.

She added, “He has worked closely with all our projects, not just giving approval for projects to be conducted but actually helping with whatever our students need to achieve their goals. This award reflects his commitment to the success of all students and his dedication to expanding opportunities and strengthening pathways to completion, transfer, and employment. We are so grateful to him for his constant support and are proud of him for receiving this prestigious honor.”

Since stepping into the role of Chancellor, Dr. Carlson has championed equity, innovation, and access throughout NTCC’s campuses, with a focus on student-centered leadership and institutional transformation. NTCC congratulates Dr. Carlson on this national recognition and celebrates his ongoing impact on students and the greater Gator community.
