NTCC Offering Associate of Applied Science Degree in Advanced Manufacturing

Lacombe, LA.— In response to rising industry demand for skilled workers, Northshore Technical Community College will be offering new associate degree and certificate programs in Advanced Manufacturing starting this fall at the Lacombe Campus. 

“Advanced Manufacturing encompasses a number of disciplines, all focused on using innovative technologies to allow companies to sustainably produce goods faster, at lower cost, and of higher quality than their competitors,” said Chuck Crabtree, NTCC’s Director of Advanced Manufacturing. “The mission of the program is to supply students with professional experiences, skills and knowledge to achieve excellence in advanced manufacturing.”

The Advanced Manufacturing Program will begin classes in Robotics, Hydraulics, and Safety this fall. Exit points for the new program will include the Associate Degree in Applied Science in Technical Studies, Technical Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing, and Career and Technical Certificates. Additional classes such as Data Analytics, Desktop CNC, Laser Cutting, Programmable Logic Controllers, Industry 4.0/5.0, Fluid Power, and Six Sigma will be added in upcoming semesters.  Students will earn stackable NC3 credentials through participation in the program.

NTCC hosted an open house on June 25, 2024, where guests enjoyed demonstrations of the 3D Printer, Programmable Logic Controller, and Laser Cutter.  NTCC Chancellor Jim Carlson told the group, “NTCC’s business and industry partners right here on the northshore are working with us to create a flexible, responsive curriculum that will develop the workforce they need for their companies to prosper.  Our goal is to prepare students for high-wage employment in the burgeoning Advanced Manufacturing sector, where they’ll have opportunities for significant career advancement.”
