Participants Partnership Assists NTCC Expansion of Emergency Medical Technician Program

Livingston, LA – Northshore Technical Community College is excited to announce that an Emergency Medical Technician Program (EMT) is expanding to the college’s Livingston campus in Walker, LA. Offering this new program is made possible because of a partnership with Dr. Ratliff of The Carpenter Health Network.  He will serve as the Medical Director of the EMT program.  Christi Marceaux, the Dean of Health Sciences and Nursing at NTCC says, “In order to effectively meet the need of our communities, partnerships such as this are vital to our success."

Taylor Richard, Senior Director of Staffing, with Acadian Ambulance states, "The nationwide shortage of EMTs and paramedics poses a critical challenge to communities across our nation. Acadian Ambulance has been successfully recruiting and educating medics for many years so that we can ensure swift and effective emergency care. We applaud Northshore Technical Community College for recognizing the need for more medics and providing additional educational resources to those seeking an exciting and rewarding career."

The EMT program has been a long sought-after program by individuals and healthcare partners across the region that NTCC serves. The increasing demand for EMTs is the driving force behind this launch. NTCC Chancellor, Dr. James Carlson, states "Northshore Technical Community College is excited to partner with Dr. Ratliff of the Carpenter Health Network in order to provide much-needed trained professionals to begin health care careers as Emergency Medical Technicians in Livingston Parish and surrounding areas.” The chancellor also adds, “At the heart of our mission is being able to provide affordable, accessible educational options to all residents of the Northshore region that also enhances the communities that we serve. Our healthcare partners have asked for more skilled EMTs and we are responding to their needs." Dr. Ratliff reports that “The Carpenter Health Network is honored to have been selected for this exciting partnership with NorthShore Technical Community College. I believe, based on our organizational breadth and NTCC’s commitment to education, this collaboration will promote innovation, advance patient care in our community, and provide a solid foundation for career growth to the students.”

With the launch planned in Livingston Parish, NTCC Livingston Campus Dean, Dr. Lizette Leader, speaks about how honored and excited she feels to offer this program to the community.  It will be the very first EMT program offered in Livingston Parish.  NTCC has seen significant interest already and expects to quickly fill the first class. Anyone interested in the Emergency Medical Technician program should attend one of the upcoming information sessions. They will be held at 10:00 am and 5:00 pm on Tuesday July 16th at NTCC’s Livingston Campus located at 11640 Burgess Ave, Walker, LA 70785.
