The Online Center of Faculty & Staff Excellence is the central point for access to online sources of training and professional development for faculty and staff at Northshore Technical Community College. The Center falls under the Academic Affairs Division and is co-managed by the Planning and Academic Initiatives Office and Library Services. Many of the online training courses are hosted on the LinkedIn Learning platform. 


Log-In and Access to LinkedIn Learning

The Center uses LinkedIn Learning as a primary platform for online training courses. Courses connected to LinkedIn Learning will be identified with |LL| in the catalog below. Special steps are required to access LinkedIn Learning for the first time as an NTCC employee. Be sure to follow both steps below to ensure a easy transition into the LinkedIn Learning Platform:

Step 1: Use the link below and log-in by using your full NTCC email address and email password credentials:

Step 2: After entering your NTCC credentials, you will be sent to a page that asks you to connect your LinkedIn account to Linkedin Learning. You can do this by entering your LinkedIn account credentials. If you do not have a LinkedIn account, you should be given an option to proceed without connecting your account.

In order to become eligible to teach a course in a 100% online or hybrid format, NTCC requires instructors to complete the NTCC Online Faculty Certification. Beginning in Spring 2020, the following steps must be completed in order to earn certification:


Step 1: Complete Online Training Courses | Each of the following courses must be completed (available through the LinkedIn Learning platform):


Step 2: Design a Course in Canvas for Review | Upon completion of the courses listed in Step 1, faculty will design a course in Canvas for review.  The following course design elements are required in your canvas course:

  1. Syllabus
  2. Home Page - This page provides a welcome to your course and includes a minimum of course name and instructor information, and serves as a guide of where to look and navigate to for course content and information.
  3. Modules are consistently named and logically sequenced.
  4. Module Overview pages - These pages include a minimum of what students will be doing for the module, assessments to be completed, and learning objectives that align to the syllabus.  
  5. A variety of assessment types are used.
  6. Assignments, discussions, and quizzes include thorough instructions and all necessary resources/files, where applicable.
  7. Rubrics are added to all assignments, discussions, and/or quizzes, where applicable.

Upon successful completion of both steps, instructors will receive NTCC Online Faculty Certification and will be eligible to teach courses in online and hybrid formats. Canvas course design support and questions can be directed to:
