High School Equivalency Test (HiSET)

Northshore Technical Community College is a state-approved testing center for the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET). Testing Services administers the computerized version of the test. A paper-and-pencil option is not available at our testing centers.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO TAKE THIS TEST?
To take the HiSET exam in the state of Louisiana, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • You must be at least 16 years of age to take the HiSET exam.
  • Individuals who are 16–18 years old must provide all of the following additional documentation to be eligible to test:
    • Enrollment in and/or authorization by an approved WorkReady U literacy program or enrollment in a high school HiSET program
    • Earn a score of “Prepared” or “Well Prepared” on the HiSET Official Practice Test.
    • 16 and 17 year old individuals must obtain an approved age waiver or documentation of current enrollment in a state-approved Louisiana Options/Connections program 
    • Individuals who are 18 also need the LA HiSET Authorization Form 

ADDITIONAL POLICIES

  • All applicants must present state and/or government-issued identification on test day at the HiSET test center.
    • Acceptable IDs include a driver’s license, LA Wallet, valid passport, military ID, or other government-issued identification that includes your name, address, date of birth, signature, and photograph. Expired identification will not be accepted.
  • The state of Louisiana requires test preparation or instruction and authorization to test for eligible students 16–18 years of age.
    • Practice Test
      • Ages 19 and older: No practice test required.
      • Ages 16–18: Must qualify by taking the HiSET Official Practice Tests and scoring “Prepared” or “Well Prepared” on all five subjects. Qualifying scores are certified by state-approved WorkReady U sites.
  • You do not have to be a resident of Louisiana to take the HiSET exam.

Testing Room Policy

  • No personal items are allowed in the testing room. This includes, but is not limited to; mobile phones, smartwatches, purses, firearms, hats (non-religious), bags, books, or notes.
  • All personal belongings must be stored in a secure area as directed by Testing Center staff or returned to your vehicle. Individuals who refuse to store personal items will be unable to test.
  • The only item required on test day is your valid state or government-issued photo ID.

TEST FEES

  • Full battery (Five subtests): $115.00
  • Individual subtest: $31.00 for first test and $21.00 each for the remaining 4 tests.

SCHEDULING YOUR TEST

Visit the ETS HiSET website to schedule and register for a test.

  • Select LOUISIANA MYHISET LOGIN to create an account or sign-in (Username is email address)
  • You will select the Subject(s) you wish to test for and the location of the testing center.
  • Payment is expected upon registering.

TEST SCORES

Unofficial scores for multiple-choice sections are displayed immediately after testing. Official scores are typically available within:

  • 3–5 business days for multiple-choice sections
  • 6–10 business days for the Writing subtest

A Comprehensive Score Report can be viewed in your HiSET account.

To obtain an official score report or transcript, students must visit the Diploma Sender website.

Passing Scores

To pass, you must:

1. Score at least 8 on each subtest
2. Score at least 2 on the essay portion of the Writing test
3. Achieve a combined total of 45 across all five subtests
